What is the Invention Education Toolkit?

The invention education model is a student-centered, active learning approach that supports students’ abilities to solve local and global challenges. The Invention Education Toolkit is a digital platform that provides practical resources for the implementation of invention education. The Toolkit reflects the experiences of a team of educators and inventors from 16 institutions across ten countries in Africa, Europe, and North America. The Toolkit includes key literature, best practices, case studies, and teaching and design resources to help you build a community of practice around invention education at your university.

Integrating Invention Education into Your University

Invention education is highly adaptable to local contexts and may be integrated across a wide variety of settings--classrooms, workshops, projects, and beyond. Invention education can be incorporated into a single project, a series of workshops, a full course, or an entire curriculum. We encourage you to consider your unique learning context, learning objectives, and overarching goals for implementing invention education as a starting point for exploring the resources in the Invention Education Toolkit.

How to Use the IvE Toolkit

We have created a video tutorial on how to navigate the Invention Education Toolkit.

All the tools can be accessed either individually through the Quick Search page or by category in the tools section on each of the Invention Education Pillars. The Toolkit is organized into four main pillars to provide specific sets of tools depending on your needs. We encourage you to browse tools by categories that align with your goals.

  1. Classroom and Curriculum – Invention education tools to support student programs, curriculum, pedagogical strategies, infrastructure, and equipment
  2. Technology Development & Commercialization – Resources to support the design, translation, and commercialization of technologies through invention education
  3. Faculty as Leaders – Resources to support faculty champions for invention education, including faculty development, and professional activities
  4. Support And Partnerships – Resources to support the invention education ecosystem through collaborations between universities, innovation communities, and non-profits.
